How long can it be before the Republic lays off 50 or more people? Stock price falling from 90 to 35, circulation eliminated in half the state, lot of people there still making 75K or more a year. ijole…feliz navidad!

This is really too bad; but why don’t you talk about the obvious fact that many of these people had more than 30 years at the paper. That’s a lot of money they saved. Just before Christmas too.

Hey Mike, heard about this today as well. As a former employee as well, this all sounds very sad. I’m no market analyst, but I wasn’t aware plummeting real estate sales translate to holiday-timed layoffs for some of your most loyal employees. The ad cuts make more sense, but the way they did this sounds cold. I point specifically to this line in the memo:

“We shouldn’t notice much of a change, though we might work more often with the Flagstaff folks.”

Let’s not forget the plummeting stock price of the Star’s parent corporation, which is now at exactly $14. In March it was nearly $36. But if the Click rumor is true, that’s the ultimate blow.
