More Government Ineptitude

MORE GOVERNMENT INEPTITUDE
This is mildly stupid; if the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services agency is serious about dispensing visas to skilled professionals, they may want to start by fixing their broken Web pages.
I was reading the Arizona Daily Star’s series on legal immigration and then found this story with Microsoft founder Bill Gates where he argues that the minimal number of skilled worker visas is leading to job outsourcing because the tech companies can’t find enough qualified employees in the U.S. (Hang on, the stupid part’s coming.)
Then a reader, Will Coley, sent me a Youtube video he made that shows the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services as an outdated, inept agency that is hopelessly behind the times. I actually thought the video was pretty immature and I was getting ready to tell its creator exactly what I thought of it.
But first, I threw the H-1b visa into Google to pull out a number I was looking for, and the first link that came up was Citizenship and Immigration Services’ to its H-1b information sheet, you know; the “how do I apply for an H-1b?” page. And this is what it said:
404 – Requested Page Not Found on Site
The page you requested, http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/h1b.htm, is not on our site.
It may have been available before our redesign in October 2006.
Please look for related information on the USCIS Home Page.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Perhaps the Homeland Security Department should hire some foreign workers to show them how to update their goddamned Web site.
So, my commendation to Coley; it seems your video was accurate after all.

Thanks… I guess. But I don’t work for C.I.S. and am actually for immigrant rights. I was trying to show that we should stop blaming immigrants for the current situation but a hopelessly out of date system. -Will

I’m glad Mr. Coley is pushing this video, it adds a dimension to the immigration debate that self pro-claimed “pro-legal anti-illegal” immigration activists conveniently forget about. The U.S. Legal Immigration System Sucks!

Lack of skilled workers didn’t lead to outsourcing.
The field that I’m familiar with is computer software development. Companies did attempt to import programmers and designers from other countries. But this wasn’t just for expertise not found in the US. It was to replace those who were earning higher salaries, usually those with more experience and/or over 40.

What have you learned about US farmers, particularly in the Imperial Valley. that are closing down farms there and leasing big tracts of land in Sinaloa and Sonora? When I was in Guasave, Sinaloa, a few months back there was lots of “buzz” about this among friends who work the farms. Seemed to have substance.
