I agree with Ilegal, but in case of a suspected night or isolated check point never try to go away.
A friend of mine just came back from Puerto Peñasco. They were a big group of eight cars, most of them SUV’s, can anibody imagine to go to Sonora in a convoy this kind??.. I told him before depart to Mexico; “Never travel during the night!, I don’t want to imagine what could a group of bandits think if they see you at night!”.

This may seem like a stupid question but it’s a legimate one. Considering all the info that this website, how safe is it for a family to travel to Sonora? Keeping in mind they will have US plates… Thanks for any advice – this is actually for my own family going later this summer.
