THE BORDER REPORT

Ciudád Obregón – The wealthiest cartel that ever controlled the Arizona-Sonora border, Los Güeritos, have resurged to the south, down near Sonora’s border with Sinaloa. The group of narco-traffickers who once controlled the entire corridor, from the Sinaloan border to Phoenix, Ariz., have re-established themselves throughout this city and nearby Navojoa, this time aligning themselves with the Gulf Cartel from Mexico’s east coast.

The information comes from a confidential informant of the federal Attorney General’s Office living in northern Sonora and it leaves some question about the effectiveness of law enforcement in this country against the narcos of this country.

The country’s helplessness against the Sonoran strong-arms of the Beltrán Leyva family is going to be really interesting to watch. Times have changed since Raul Enriquez Parra, then leader of the cartel, was crudely beaten, his body and three others thrown from an airplane on a ranch in Navojoa.

At the time, the family collapsed; the younger brother, Daniel Irene, gunned down in Tijuana, Raul’s wife popped in Phoenix, and the group’s syndicate working in Arizona seized, the sealed charging papers filed in U.S. District Court showing they had moved untold millions of pounds of weed and meth through Arizona.

A couple questions this fine Sunday morning; does Wilfrido Enriquez Parra still control the group? And where does this leave Francisco Hernandez, El Dos Mil? Two week ago, he threw a wedding party in Cananea for his daughter so obviously he’s not being dogged too much by authorities in northeastern Sonora.

  1. Wow, I had never heard of that group.Having a house at Las Dunas (Santo Tomas) I see the Army is really pressing the issue. They busted all the copa a El Egreaga (Y) and searched my sun shade for 20 minutes looking for weed. They had brand new ATV’s. My friends came upon a weed deal in process South of Desembogue and were lucky to get out of there. Finally the Saric-Sasabe road is half paved. It is great through the mountains but look out for the last 15 miles,
