Jack, what I am speaking about is a reaction to a global economy the truth of the matter my friend is that because of Union’s, and high pay for similar quality manufactured goods with overseas nations, the US economy will never be able to hold a candle to the countries like China. I think you and Tantos are making more of this then what I orginally stated, but if you would like to continue to speak on the globalization, and industrialization of the world market, please contact the website owner so that we may exchange e-mails. Back to what I was saying, my beef was that I did not appreciate the fact that number one the letter had not been signed, number two was that Unions, which if you read the letter carefully, the person(s) that wrote the letter wanted the reader to know that because of a vote taken by the Union from which he is a member of, have a seat at the table for which a descion regarding the leadership of the organization for which he is an employee of has the power to make a descion. That would be like the United Auto Workers Union filing a grieveance with Ford Motor Co stating that they wanted Ford to fire a plant manager because the union employee’s didn’t like the way he was running the plant, now what would the Board at Ford Motor Co do if they were faced with an issue like that? They would faint from laughing so hard, their response would be similar to mine “get the heck out of here with that” “who the hell do you think we are, Ford Motor Co runs this plant, not the UAW”. Like it or not it’s the same situation you have there in that letter, and unfortunately, I will never be able to break the stuborn thinking of men like Tantos who think I listen to people like Rush, when in fact it’s people like Dr. Ron Paul or Bob Barr whom I appreciate the most, let the free market, the totally free market decide and dictate how things will run, not Union’s, not government control, and also, just to show I am pissed at the republicans for what they did, because of them, you are right Tantos (see how forgiving I can be) lavish spending was almost considered the right thing to do, have top CEO’s worn out their welcome with Wall Street, you bet, was the Bush Administration responsible for this? Maybe not responsible, but they allowed it to go on, do those habits have any bearing on the downfall on a number of US companies, they are a portion of the issue, but they are not the whole enchilada, but I can’t argue with you anymore on what the main issue is, you are pro-union, and i’ll never be able to break you of that.

Your excellent comment, Tantos, reminded me of when a Rio Rico neighbor chastised me after I’d bought a new Honda.

(He’s a retired Ford worker and he’d just bought a splendid, new Ford Fusion.)

“How come you didn’t buy an American car, Jack?”

When I told him that my Honda had been built in Alabama out of 75% US-made parts and that his Fusion had been built in Hermosillo, Mexico, using only 35% US-made parts, he flatly told me I was lying.

And so, I calmly told him to open his Fusion’s door. Whereupon we found a label that documented that what I’d said about his car was true.

We then opened my Honda’s door to document what I’d said about my car was also true.

He became very angry.

What this suggests to me, Tantos, is that reactionaries like Will, will soon be devoured by the realities of a global market.

I truly hope so…

Yeah, shouting and name calling doesn’t work so well on line, does it? The letters are still the same size, except for CAPS, I guess.

The downfall of the U.S. auto industry is due solely to unions damanding better pay and benefits? Nothing to do with the executives and their multi-million dollar bonuses, and showing up at congress in private luxury jets begging for handouts… Go back to listening to Rush Limbaugh, Will.

They voted right? They sent in a vote of no-confidence to the CBP management, right? Are you a Shop-Stewart? The border isn’t the problem, the problem is people like you who think you are entitled to certain pay and benefits, and in the end you bankrupt the business you belong to (airlines, and auto industry). Keep driving around in your Chevy Sierra and your “Proud to be Union” bumper sticker on your car…communist HA!…Blackwater will soon send in their El Salvadorian counterpart Greystone Ltd to replace the $19 an hour you make to get one out of every 10 drug loads sent through, they’ll do it for half pay and a better job….now get back to work punk!!

The BP Union didn’t write this letter. Look at their website (local 2544 for AZ) and you’ll see that they don’t criticize anonymously. You are barking up the wrong tree.

Un-American? Union organizers get assasinated in Mexico and Central America. The lack of unions (and collective bargaining power) south of the border is a big reason why workers leave those countries for the U.S.

In your line of thinking, I also suppose “whistle blowers” are un-American. Even if an agency leader has a personal agenda and/or makes politically motivated decisions which hurts law enforcements officers’ ability to protect citizens? Just shut up and do your job? That’s just brilliant, Will.

When did I say that what they said was wrong? I said the method they chose to get across their message was poorly made. Why the anger? I expected more from men/women that represent law and order to at least respect the fact that all accused men/women have the right to face their accuser, which by not signing this letter, they revoked from whom ever they were accusing in their letter.

Your response, Will, had a defensive tone to it. Why the excessive anger and name-calling?

My evidence is anecdotal, but I think the letter has credence. Anyone who’s lived in So Az has seen a marked deterioration in the quality of agents hired over the past three years.

Besides, the contents of the letter were far too specific to be dismissed out of hand.

Finally, this is not the first time problems within the Border Patrol have come to light. It has suffered from one of the biggest attrition rates of any law enforcement agency. Why?

Could it be that it’s just not the union that is “politically and economically motivaited (sic)” as Will charges?

Gail, no it is not “UnAmerican” to organize and voice your objective and concerns. However, a politically, and economically motivaited entity such as a Union has no place in the descision making process of the US.

Loco, agreed, you shouldn’t be working for corrupt officials, but writing a letter, and not claiming who wrote it is not the way to go about changing things.
