THE BORDER REPORT

Just got this information from a source in Southern Arizona. The U.S. Border Patrol is looking for this man, Alejandro Chavez-Vasquez, 36 years old, in connection with the March killing of Cochise County rancher, Robert Krentz.

The information was distributed to residents last night at a rancher’s meeting in southeastern Arizona. Chavez was fingered for the burglaries in the small town of Portal and from there, linked back to Krentz’s killing. Don’t know anything else about the circumstances behind Chavez’s involvement in the shooting death of the rancher yet. The Feds have identified Chavez as a 36 to 38 year old man with wildly differing birthdates. Persons of Interest are not suspects, nor should they be presumed to be. The man could have been a simple burglar, a witness to the killing, or knows the man authorities really want. However, my source in Douglas who sent me the information early this morning noted: “I would venture a guess that in my 26 years here on the border, I have never seen the Sheriff’s office release a photo of a ‘person of interest for burglaries.” Which is also true.

Other sources in Douglas have told me that a gun was stolen from a home in Portal shortly before Krentz was murdered. At a press conference, Sheriff Larry Dever would only tell reporters that there was a “second incident involving a gun” within 24 hours before the killing but declined to elaborate on what that incident was.

Krentz, 58, was a long-time rancher in Arizona’s southeast region on the border with New Mexico and Sonora. On March 27, he was found shot dead astride his Polaris ATV, his dog dying by his side. Sheriff’s deputies suspected illegal migrants or drug mules because he had sent a garbled message to his brother earlier saying something that sounded like “illegal alien” and “hurt.” A famed big-cat hunter from Southern Arizona tracked the shooter’s footprints to the eastern flanks of Cerro Gallardo, a stone outcropping abutting the U.S.-Mexico border just east of Douglas, Ariz., off Geronimo Trail Road.

I thought the same that guy looks like every other drunk on the streets of the Mexican border towns..I can just picture him saying ” Que Pachuca por Toluca lokotote osea que transita por tu venas mi buen piiiipppiiiiiippiiiiii shibiripipao” ” Te limpio el vidrio?” While he is huffing on some gold spray paint..But the local police departments in the more populated urban cities do that shit all the time they find some crackhead and make him confess to all kinds of shit.Or they pick up some dude for a similar crime and add on 10 more unsolved ones then call the media for a press conference..There is no way in my opinion the Us goverment can positivly identify a person who came here illegaly no more than a few hours ago.

In my opinion I think its the best step for Mexico. because if you dont side with one group and take guys out from several groups the only thing your doing is opening the door for more violence, but if you attack the groups that the general public views as a problem such as Zetas and BLO it makes you look good..Alot of shit in Sinaloa was blamed on Chaguin’s people and from what I hear Pepino was as ruthless in his area,so I can see how he would be hated.

Pos ultimadamente que se vallan ala verga todos para que se vallan los pinches soldados de Durango tan peor que los Zetas esos gueyes se roban asta el dinero Los Zetas de perdido lo pedian.Se van de peor a peor.

  4. Still something is not right about this story…if this guy was there or knows something about Krentz…why if he were a burgler and involved didn´t he take the valuable stuff? The Polaris ATV, guns, money, a cell phone, radio equipment, etc…and why shoot the man?…the rancher hadn´t drawn a gun. It seems still to me that there are too many unanswered questions and I am thinking whoever killed Rob Krentz, knew him.

Here is the english translation of the convo

    Captor
“What group do you belong to”

    Everybody Answers
    “To the Zetas”

    Captor
    “Who!”

    Everybody Answers
    “Zetas”

    Captor
“Hold on, you answer. You are their boss right?”

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
    “You answer”
“What group do you belong to?”

    Captive 2
    “To The Zetas”

    Captor
    “Zetas”

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
“Who are your Majors?” ( I found it unusual that the interrogator asked him, Who are your Majors, when in all the videos released the question always is, Who is your Major, not Majors)

    Captive 2
“Major 40 Pepito and 27 Tigrito and..”

    Captor
    “Wait, wait, slower.. Who”

    Captive 2
“Major 40, The 27, Pepito and the.. Charolas and Bebe”

    Captor
    “The Bebe?”

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
    “Where are this people located”

    Captive 2
“In Camargo, in Miguel Aleman and Tomales” (The Zeta clearly states tomales, throughout most of the video you can kind of tell that this person is either under the influence of something, or was somehow impaired)

    Captor
“In Camargo, In Miguel Aleman and in Comales. And in Guerrero?”

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
    “Where”

    Captive 2
“In Guerrero and A*** (I am a Mexican, and was raised with the language, but still I could not make out what he said)

    Captor
“In Mier also? (I’m not sure what this specific word was again, so if you guys want to correct me, I would appreciate it, feel free)

    “What is your Mission”

    Captive 2
“To kill the people from the Gulf”

    Captor
“To kill those from the Gulf”

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
    “And why?”

    Captive 2
“Because we want to exterminate everyone from the Gulf, and the Cartel” (In this part of the video, you can clearly tell that it had been rehearsed, because unlike other videos the answer was not natural. You can tell when a person has been instructed what to answer, and certain parts of their speech change when actually freely answering as oppose to when they know what to say)

    Captor
“You want to kill all of those from the Gulf and the Cartel.. Oh.. And why did you let yourself get caught?”

    Captive 2
“Because we went against the military and they where well armed”

    Captor
    “They where very well armed..”

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
“And was there a lot of them, or not?”

    Captive 2
“Yes, there was a lot of them”

    Captor
“So they where a lot” (All throughout the video, the person repeats everything that the Zetas answer, as if he wanted to make sure that we can hear their reply. You can tell it was staged, there’s no question in my mind about this. The whole video is very badly directed and I can tell that their only goal was to make them look bad. Now I’m not saying that they really didn’t do all of that, but I can tell it was all staged)

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
    “And you guys where afraid..”

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
“Well I thought Zetas where supposed to be all so brave!” (Sarcasm)
“Aren’t you always taking yourself to be so brave?”

    Captive 2
    “No sir”

    Captor
“That fagot Lazcano and.. 40, aren’t they always saying they’re so brave. Why do they send you to fight, why aren’t they fighting?”

    Captive 2
“Because they are afraid they’ll get killed”

    Captor
    “Oh, yeah???”

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
“How many families have you killed..”

    Captive 2
“A lot, a lot of them. We kill them, we kill them then we burn them.”

    Captive
“You burn them? Why do you burn them?”

    Captive
“Because Major 40 gives us those orders”

    Captor
“Your Major40 tells you to burn people?” (Again the question sounds so sarcastic)

    Captive 2
“Well we take the captives to them, then they burn them”

    Captor
    “They burn them…”

    Captive 2
“Yes they kill them with a mallet.”

    Captor
    “They kill them with what?!!?”

    Captive 2
    “With a mallet.”

    Captor
“The Women, do you kill them to?”

    Captive 2
“Yes we rape them, we rape them because they don’t let us go home because they haven’t paid us” (Here in this exact line, the Zeta replies to the question in such a manner.. Almost as if he was rushing. It’s the reaction typical of someone who has been instructed on what to say. It’s like he memorized what to say, but didn’t say it correctly. It makes no sense.. I mean, putting those three things together makes no sense at all. We rape them because they don’t let us go home because they haven’t paid us. They where probably instructed to give out this answers, but not all at the same time. Well, we can’t all be good actors..)

    Captor
    “You rape them?”

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
    “Why?”

    Captive 2
“Because they don’t let us.. they don’t let us..

    Captor
    “Speak Louder!!”

    Captive 2
“Because they don’t let us go home, because they haven’t paid us.”

    Captor
    “They don’t pay you?”

    Captive 2
    “No”

    Captor
“For how long have they not paid you?”

    Captive 2
    “Three Months”

    Captor
“Three months with no pay and they have you fighting!”

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
“Oh.. And who recruited you over there in your land”

    Captive 2
    “Uhmm.. Major Compita.”

    Captor
    “Major Compita?

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
“And they send you over under who? Major40?”

    Captive 2
“With Major40.. No, with Major Zapatta.. In Saltillo.” (At first he confirms it, as in saying, Yes Major 40, without a thought.. Then he clearly clarifies, no Major Zapatta)

    Captor
“And what is it you do there, why do you steal from the town people”

    Captive 2
“Because they don’t give us money for food”

    Captor
“And what do you do there, to get money”

    Captive 2
“No, we only take their food” (I think this was one of the only answers where he sounded sincere)

    Captor
    “You take their food?”

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
“And the little money they have, do you take it or leave it for them?”

    Captive 2
“No, they take it from us” (He clearly states, no they take it FROM US, I don’t know, call me paranoid, but all of this seems so staged. Again, I don’t imply to say that they don’t do it, or that the video is a fake.. But it all seems so staged up)

    Captor
    “You take it”

    Captive 2
    “Yes”

    Captor
“Well that there are The Zetas, to start off with they don’t pay and they kill Women and Children. You think that’s good? That piece of shit group.

    Captive 2
    “No..”

Well.. There you have it guys.. It took me a long time because of what they said.. The way they said it.. It just sounded so fake. A couple of things to point out. The people in the background look to be military, the weapons they carry, Military.

The way that you hear the radio in the background, I’ve heard the way some of this guys communicate and this, it just sounded to “Clean”. Something else, the Zeta said that they got captured because they got into it with the military and they where very well armed.

When I told Buggs I was going to be covering this story, he told me that they had also send the video to him, and that they told him that this people where captured by the Military in Tamaulipas. If they where taken in by the military, what are they doing appearing in this video? CDG? Mata Zetas?

They all turn out to be the same organization, just different aliases. Well guys, I guess it’s up to you to speculate. At the end of the day, all we do is communicate, and I know that I like to post my “ideas”, but that’s all they are, ideas.

I appreciate debate and speculation guys, I feed on criticism and opinions, and hope you all liked the coverage.

I’m going to ask you guys not to post borderlandbeat.com’s material on this site anymore. Their Web site is lifting content from news organizations without attributing the work to any of the journalists and news services who produce it. They won’t even link to the original stories but try to sell advertising off what’s essentially plagiarism. I won’t have my readers visiting their Web site through BorderReporter.

I am a regular reader to both side (I decide what I read not you) and I see they attribute credit in most cases, you can see it. It is a good source of information for some of us who don’t read Spanish. Why must bloggers always fight among each other, trying to compete with each other like he cartel do in Mexico? It’s silly, just be happy there are other sources of information out there.

    [Reply]

    Michel Reply:

A cursory check of their Web site shows that they’re not linking back to the original producers of the stories and videos they’re posting.
It’s not a competition; you’re more than welcome to link to stories from lavidamafiosa, malcolmbeith.com, Maggie’s Madness, all whom link appropriately when not writing their own content.
As a journalist myself and a producer of some of my own news, giving proper credit is important so as not to leave readers with the impression that I’m doing the heavy lifting myself. A lot of expense and effort goes into the production of news and the content creators deserve the proper attribution and site visits.
Nobody’s telling you what you can and can’t read; I simply don’t want borderlandbeat links appearing here.
