THE BORDER REPORT

Did two of Mexico’s strongest cartel leaders hold a meeting just south of the Arizona border last week? That’s what being said in certain company.

Those in the know say Sinaloa boss Joaquín “Shorty” Guzmán and Guadalajara Cartel leader Nacho Coronel Villarreal, paid a visit to the border, holding a meeting southside, in Sonoyta, Sonora, just across from Lukeville, Ariz.

An agreement was hammered out with some of the Sonora-to-Phoenix traffickers who prefer using Highway 85 to shoot north.

When two of Latin America’s most wanted men hold a meeting in a place like Sonoyta, I doubt they’re here to take a tour of the U.S.’s $3.9 million a mile border fence.

I’m a little curious to know what they discussed.

The tip, from credible sources, falls in line with a rumor going rampant in Nogales, Ariz., the past few weeks. Apparently, Coronel was spotted in Nogales, though again, nobody can tell me why. He was identified after a pot bust at the port of entry. Let’s be clear though, I say he was spotted, I didn’t say anybody arrested the guy.

  6. hopefully they were bringing a big bag of cash to the family of the murdered waitress from the big hotel restaurant assassination that took place at the end of November.

  7. It is presumed that a 5,000-pound pot load busted at a Nogalense’s trucking co. off Baffert Street belonged to El Coronel. Choppers were hovering over the warehouse that day and ICE men were on the prowl assisted by local lawmen. There was an arrest, but no charges — yet. Strange dayz indeed.
