THE BORDER REPORT
Alonzo Peña started work today as Special-Agent-in-Charge of what may be the most beleagured, low morale workplace in the state of Arizona - ICE.I've been watching ICE since it's inception in March 2003 and we've had something like four or five SACS in less than four years. The turnover is faster than the Mexicans, I swear.
Peña has the unfortunate task of cowing to Gov. Napolitano's demands for more to be done against illegal immigration in the state.
What ICE and the Homeland Security Department aren't telling you is: there's no more federal agents so they're re-directing agents in Arizona from narco-trafficking cases to migrant smuggling.
Current agents spoke out about this to The Border Report last week. I have a little more clarification from you coming from a former federal agent I spoke with over the weekend.
I'll let this former agent put it in their own words for you:
"They can still work dope trafficking, but the definite emphasis from the very top is being but on long term immigration (alien smuggling) cases. They all expect that as soon as the top can figure out how to give the border and port dope cases to DEA or CBP, ICE will be pulled completely off the border to work immigration in the interior. So, that would validate your Phoenix ICE info that they are already only working immigration cases.
"To be honest, from the very beginning of the merger, we knew we were being lied to about staying in the dope game. On the outside, the bosses were saying that we would not lose the dope cases. "They said this to keep all the agents from abandoning the ship at the same time – who would they have left in the interim of the merger. But on the inside, we in the field were getting the scoop from buddies in D.C. [those planning the merger] that we would become the new INS and end up working aliens/immigration only."You see, the whole thing was a grand old federal government lie from the beginning. To make America feel safe, they had to do something. So, they came up with the plan to make abolished INS agents into Customs agents, and give the Customs agents the job that no one wanted – being the pinche migra. Because even the abolished INS Agents didn't want to be the migra anymore.
"The government thought, 'Well, these INS guys are being abolished because they did a lousy job as immigration agents. Therefore, their morale will be low. How do we make them feel better about themselves so we can get them do some job, any job, since we can't legally fire them? I know, let's put them with the known and respected U.S. Customs agents, and then they will feel better about themselves. We will call them ICE agents'."
An ICE spokeswoman says she hasn't heard anything about the job switch, adding that Peña will implement his own priorities for ICE once he's settled in.
"This guy is coming in fresh, we'll have to see what happens," she said.
