THE BORDER REPORT
This came in about midnight; a state police commander was gunned down late Thursday afternoon in Hermosillo, Sonora.
Pedro Emigdio Cordova Herrera, a commander of the state police in the provincial capital of this beleaguered state was killed as he left his wife's house in Hermosillo.
He was a target last year as well, when gunmen attempted to kill him in Ciudad Obregon where he was based.
There's some interesting details about Cordova; according to federal investigators, he was working with the Enriquez Parra brothers, the go-to gang for the Sinaloan Federation to bring dope across the border in Arizona.
And there's some interesting tie-ins to the Cananea attack I need to research a little before posting. Look for an update tomorrow.
Before I sign off, you should also know that the offices of the El Diario del Yaqui were shot up in Ciudad Obregon May 12 - something the newspaper even declined to publish itself. The news came from the Inter-American Press Association.
And capping off a horrible day, yet another commando kidnapped an agricultural businessman in southern Sonora, near Navojoa.
Take care y cuidense.
