THE BORDER REPORT

DART CENTER FELLOWSHIP

Well, this is cool; I won a fellowship through the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma. The center focuses on the coverage of violence, crime, accidents, and natural disasters; I guess they like the narco-reporting.

Anyway, that's all; carry on. There's a couple pieces I'm working on right now (and I promise I'll post Part 4 of Operation Lively Green very soon.)

Things seem otherwise a little slow today. No new news from Cananea – that's coming as soon as a source I haven't heard from reports back in.

In Guanajuato, two immigration authorities were arrested for smuggling migrants into Mexico and the U.S. Surprised it's only been two. Wonder what they did wrong.

The Republic's got a well-detailed story on Americans checking into Mexican nursing homes. I don't think much of the Republic's "citizen journalism" nonsense; to me, it's nothing more than a way to get free content to fill in the space between the ads. But Hawley's story is an engaging read.

Special thanks to buddabelly  for throwing Border Reporter out onto the Daily Kos site. Some of you – especially you newspaper reporters and editors looking for stories – could learn from buddabelly's example.

Check back; there's some chismes on the stove.
