THE BORDER REPORT

A search is underway tonight for two Mexican women who disappeared while trying to illegally cross into Arizona. Amandine Poirson, who contacted me last weekend, tells me that she lost contact with Erika and Estela (still don't have their last names) on Sept. 1. Erika's father, a laborer in Florida, is weighing whether to come out and search for her and Amandine tells me that the Mexican Consulate is engaging in a search. So, you Feds out there, it'd be good if you could kick down some advice for these women. If she's counting on volunteer groups, overtime-capped BORSTAR agents and the Mexican consulate, she's going to need all the help she can get. Pass along any suggestions to Amandine at mandipoi@yahoo.fr or pass them on to me and I'll shoot them up the ladder. As a further update, government officials have tallied more than 180 bodies recovered this fiscal year in Tucson Sector. This is ridiculous; we're two weeks shy of the end of Homeland Security's fiscal year and more than 20 bodies ahead of last year's total found deaths. I'll re-emphasize an old point while I'm at it. These are only the bodies that were found. Nobody has any idea how many people actually died crossing the desert.
