THE BORDER REPORT

This is interesting, whatever threat that Customs and the DEA came across last night has not dissipated. A Douglas resident crossing the line at Agua Prieta called in to report a group of BORTAC agents standing guard at the port of entry. BORTAC's the U.S. Border Patrol's Tactical unit, similar to a SWAT unit. They are not questioning people, this reader said, simply watching, waiting. Since the Gulf Cartel's attack on Cananea last May, BORTAC's been quietly placed at the Border Patrol's Naco Station on a somewhat permanent basis. I guess it's day's like this that they're waiting for: This from reader Douglas Disgrace: One incident occurred at 9am this morning. Douglas police, Border Patrol and ICE were chasing a 2000 Chevy pick-up. The Border Patrol spiked the vehicle tires 2 miles east of Douglas. The vehicle (which I believe was a 2000 Chevy pick-up) rode on rims for quite a while and that’s when it rammed one of the agents. A short time after, the driver bailed out (around mile marker 6 on Geronimo Tr). Driver ran south until he was picked up by a “rescue vehicle” which was waiting in the desert. This vehicle was chased however the BP and ICE were too far behind so it made it back into Mexico. I don’t know yet if this vehicle came through the POE or from a stash house in Douglas. ICE recovered the vehicle and it’s cargo.
