THE BORDER REPORT
This is fascinating; a federal judge has tossed out the case against Ivan Guzmán, son of Latin America's most wanted man because the Feds couldn't build a tight case against him, El Debate reports.
That's somewhat unfortunate for the guy's lawyers; if you recall in mid-March, a group of gunmen entered the law offices of Ivan Guzmán's representatives in Guadalajara and mowed down seven people, including his two lawyers.
The month before those killings, Ivan Guzmán had been sentenced to five years on money-laundering charges. The new judge says the evidence against him, a BMW and a million in pesos weren't illegally obtained and being the son of a drug lord is also not a crime. Both are correct.
But if I were a cynic, I'd say that the lawyers were murdered because they screwed up the case and then someone turned around and told the judge to just go right ahead and fix that up just so. But that's just me.
