THE BORDER REPORT

Gotta love this Web site's readers, only they can take citizen journalism to an underground level. Thank you, mi carnál, for passing this photo along of the shot-up truck after yesterday's attack in Cananea.

Outstanding shot and much appreciated. That's as efficient of a strafing as I've ever seen.

Meanwhile, the Mexican Federal Attorney General's Office has issued a "traveler's guide" for Sonora, mainly telling people what to do when confronted with a false checkpoint, El Imparcial reports.

Local newspaper El Mineral has full details of those arrested, the cars they were driving and what they were carrying into the attack. We likely won't hear much from Gov. Eduardo Bours about this incident yet; he's in Los Angeles at a Border Governors conference with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger but when he returns, I don't want to see any of his usual talk about efectos cucaracha and murderous people fleeing to Sonora because of the country's effective operations against them. According to a press bulletin from State Police, four of the six killers hailed from Huatabampo, Cananea and Naco.

I'm still disturbed by these fake checkpoints being set up throughout the city. Spoke with two U.S.-based businesses with operations in Cananea today and both callers tell me they're pulling employees out of Cananea until things settle down and the reacomodo is complete. One has suspended travel to the city indefinitely. We'll see if these ramifications affect copper prices in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, a couple questions come to mind:

Who is going to take over this plaza when it's all said and done?

Will it be Dos Mil, Panchillo Hernandez, who has been establishing himself quietly and resolutely alongside Güeritos remnant Wilfrido Enriquez Parra?

Or Adan Salazar Zamorano, whose son Jesus Salazar Ramirez has been managing operations in Chihuahua for Vicente Carrillo's J.T.?

Where will the new alliances fall? Between Dos Mil with either the Paredes family or the Salazars?

And keep your eyes on Agua Prieta over the weekend. Hear there's some interesting winds blowing in.
