THE BORDER REPORT433px-manlio_fabio_beltrones

A fascinating theatre is brewing in Sonora these days following the June 5 daycare center fire that killed 46 children in Hermosillo. Gov. Eduardo Bours, the untouchable PRI-ista who spent his six years nearly unmarred by the press, finds himself in a ferocious back-pedal and his greatest enemy smells the blood - Sonora Senator Manlio Fabio Beltrones.

The former governor of Sonora has been embroiled in a family feud with Gov. Eduardo Bours since their childhood in Cd. Obregón. Basically, Beltrones' family is new money and Bours', old, nearly royalty. If there are two men who Beltrones considers his greatest enemies in Mexico, they are Gov. Bours and Pres. Felipe Calderón.

Chismes: Mormon Leader Kidnapped in Chihuahua?

Jun 16th, 2009 | By Michel Marizco | Category: Chismes, General News

THE BORDER REPORT

Readers are saying that Meredith Romney, the LDS leader in Chihuahua, was kidnapped today by masked gunmen. Meredith is a cousin of  Mitt Romney, the former Republican candidate for the U.S. presidency in the 2008 elections. If the rumor is true, I wonder how much of the motive to Romney's kidnapping is related to pure, brazen profit as opposed to revenge or a vengeance hit. The example's been made. In late May, a 16 year old boy from the Mennonite community in Chihuahua was kidnapped for ransom. Hundreds of Mormons gathered to demand the government intervene. The boy was later released after a small ransom was paid. Se sabe algo?

THE BORDER REPORT

Those fine little rumors just keep going. Clearly there's something here. The Mexican Army arrested four men a few minutes ago. The rumor is that at least one of those men is a big fish. Before that arrest was announced, a columnist from some Mexico City newspaper wrote a brief saying that Eduardo Teodoro Garcia's been arrested in Tijuana.

Last Friday, the rumor that Teo had been arrested was circulating through Hermosillo.

Something's up and it should be good.

THE BORDER REPORTp4170001b

A 41-year-old woman involved with the Minuteman vigilante groups that hunt illegal migrants through the Arizona desert has been arrested for pulling a home invasion and murdering a father and his nine year old daughter last month.

Then it gets ugly and weird. According to the Pima County Sheriff's Office, Shawna Forde, 43, was arrested south of Sierra Vista, Ariz. today. Her accomplices, Albert Gaxiola and Jason Eugene Bush, were also arrested. Bush was picked up in Kingman on June 11 and Gaxiola in Tucson. The father and daughter, Raul and Brisenia Flores, were murdered May 30.
