THE BORDER REPORT

A former colleague, Larry Hendricks, has gone missing in Northern Arizona. Hendricks, 44, is the assistant city editor of the Arizona Daily Sun in Flagstaff, a newspaper I worked at several years ago. He was a reporter then and the guy who got me interested in the cops and crime beat.

Hendricks had left his house in suburban Flagstaff for work Monday morning and never showed up at the newspaper. He's been missing ever since. His newspaper, the Arizona Daily  Sun, has a very brief mention buried in the police log this morning. Probably because an online news organization scooped them with this story yesterday. The newspaper is owned by Lee Enterprises, Inc., which also owns the big sister newspaper, the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson. I don't know why either newspaper is not saying anything more about the disappearance but this is utterly shameful on their part. When one of your employees goes missing for three days, you don't bury the information on the back pages of your newspaper; you don't know the circumstances of why or how he disappeared.

Anyone with information on Larry should contact the Flagstaff Police Department (Det. Brockman) at 928-774-1414, their local law enforcement agency or Coconino Silent Witness.
