THE BORDER REPORT

Some of you may know the answer to this. In "Down by the River," Charles Bowden mentions a church in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, that Amado Carrillo built. Anyone know which church and what year that might have happened?

THE BORDER REPORT

This is just too amusing to leave buried in the comments. And reader LaPuraNeta! raises a good point. Why do these guys always give up without so much as a squeak of protest? Over and over again, we hear how the border's most powerful narcos nearly exemplify Mexican machismo. Yet the only narco I ever saw who fought his arrest instead of surrendering was Arturo Beltrán Leyva. Mochomo Alfredo Beltrán didn't. Neither did Teo Teodoro García nor El Chiquilin nor Muletas.

THE BORDER REPORT

One of our readers, El Teo, just asked the question and it's getting to be a relevant question.

What happened to La Polaka?

The site's publisher, Jorge Luis Aguirre, is a great newsman who has turned that Web site into a focal point for on-the-spot crime news with a fantastic black humor. I don't recall who coined the phrase, he or I, "In Juárez, you either laugh or you cry," but if it was me, it was only because of him.

So? Who Did It?

THE BORDER REPORT

Maybe. And, being Mexico, maybe not. The interview looks clean, blaming El Viceroy, Vicente Carrillo Fuentes for the massacre of 16 youth in Juárez last Saturday.

As many of you already noticed, this transciption from juarezpress.com lays the blame solely at the feet of Joaquín Chapo Guzmán. And, as many of you have also noticed, it just seems too simple.

THE BORDER REPORT

The rumor is that Teodoro Garcia Simental, El Teo, was captured in La Paz, B.C. God knows these rumors have surfaced in the past but if you hear of anything, drop a remark in the comments, please.
