Chismes: Was a Murdered Cartel Figure an Informant for the U.S.?

THE BORDER REPORT

Cd. Juárez – A high level cartel figure assassinated in El Paso last month was murdered because his killers believed he was working as an informant for a U.S. law enforcement agency, say sources in Juárez familiar with the situation.

Jose Daniel Gonzalez Galeana worked for La Linea, the crew of killers operating under the auspices of Vicente Carrillo Fuentes in Cd. Juárez. On May 15, Gonzalez was gunned down outside the home of his girlfriend in a swank El Paso neighborhood, just down the street from that of the El Paso police chief. It's the highest level cartel assassination performed on the U.S. side of the border since that of Guillermo Gonzalez Calderóni in McAllen, Texas, six years ago.

Chismes: Juárez Trafficker, U.S. Cop or Both?

THE BORDER REPORT

Cd. Juárez – A cartel figure taken out in a swank El Paso neighborhood late last month was working with U.S. law enforcement, Mexican law enforcement sources I spoke with today in Juárez say.

Jose Daniel Gonzalez Galeana is still somewhat of a mysterious figure but something in his case just smells dirty. The 37-year-old man was gunned down outside the home of an Adriana Solis on Pony Trail Drive in El Paso on May 15. The house sits in the same neighborhood as that of El Paso Police Chief Gregory Allen. A pricey place too, listed at $364,000 in tax records. The average El Paso home goes for $113K.

Update

THE BORDER REPORT

Events in Sonora have been dwarfed by news of a fire at a daycare center that killed anywhere from 10 to 14 infants a few minutes ago in Hermosillo. I'm not going to have anything that the Sonoran media won't already have on this tragedy. El Imparcial is updating, as is Radio Los Cheros if you can get their media player to work.

Meanwhile, the Sonorans captured two or three of the guys accused in the murder of 11 people found yesterday morning. Nine of the bodies had been hacked up, I don't know how many were decapitated. Cops are saying they found a couple grenades in the car when they popped the killers.

THE BORDER REPORT

No sé, maybe someone figured it was a good time to get into the body removal business in Sonora what with most of Sonora's state police commanders up in Tucson for the annual conference. Thank you, LOL, for pushing the issue, I stopped at five, but no, 11 was the final body count in that Yukon popped outside Caborca this morning.

The situation was already getting hinky yesterday afternoon when the Arizona-Sonora law enforcement meeting being held in Tucson was cut short for a handful of Sonoran state police after someone opened fire on the state police headquarters in Caborca.

Stupid Smuggler Tricks

THE BORDER REPORTbridge-003a

Not to cap on the U.S. military's fantasies about narco sky-jumpers but this fiasco from Monday best characterizes the challenges faced by U.S. border law enforcement.

The photo comes from the Border Patrol who snapped a shot of a smuggler's truck whose driver missed the ramp. The ramp was being used to negotiate over the Homeland Security vehicle barrier in place among much of Arizona's border with Mexico.

I sure hope that driver doesn't take to the skies next or he'll be raining dope down on all of us.
