A Sinaloa drug lord arrested in the United States for trafficking some of the purest meth ever seen in the Midwest, was also implicated in the 2004 murder of a photojournalist in Mexico, records show.
As far as villains go, George Iknadosian seemed the Hollywood archetype for the role. Everything about the merchant fit the bill for a proper switch in title, from gunstore owner to arms dealer.

TIJUANA – The beefy white police truck careened around the street corner, its siren screaming, taking the curb and landing hard, a piece of the back fender snapping off, not bothering to slow down as it raced up Revolucíon Boulevard. The rest of the cops ran to their own trucks, pulling away from the curb in a frenzy of shrieking sirens and tires.
Tourists and Tijuanenses stood at the intersection, warily watching the brewing fiasco.

Guess that schmuck arrested in Mexicali last weekend wasn't the interesting Alberto Beltrán Leyva, after all. But that didn't stop U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Mexico's Attorney General's Office from holding the poor bastard for seventeen hours in custody. The doctor, a resident of Mexicali for 20 years, was arrested by U.S. port officials last Friday evening when he tried to enter the United States.
What astounds me is that the port inspectors had nothing else to go off of other than his name, which matched that of Mario Alberto Beltrán, brother to "El Mochomo" Alfredo, and capo, "Barbas" Arturo Beltrán Leyva.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder must have made every pothead and federal agent in the country blink yesterday when he announced the Feds will no longer target medical marijuana. To some, his pronouncement signals the demise of marijuana laws that are nearly seventy years old. The "legalize it" crowd is pleased.
I'm not, and not because I'm opposed to medical marijuana. Somewhere down there with “deport them all,” “build the walls higher,” and “who cares,” nothing is more infuriating to me than soft potheads whose answer to Mexico’s northern border mess is “legalize it.”
